How to Set Up an Internet Identity
On this page

Internet Identity (II) is the Internet Computer's decentralized authentication system. It lets you log in securely to apps like KongSwap without passwords, using only trusted devices. Here's how to set up your own Internet Identity.
Step 1: Visit the Internet Identity Portal
Go to the official Internet Identity page at identity.ic0.app. Make sure you're using a secure browser and a device you trust.
Step 2: Create a New Anchor
Click "Create Internet Identity". You'll receive an Internet Identity Anchor — a unique number that identifies your account. Write this number down and store it securely.
Step 3: Add a Security Device
Internet Identity uses WebAuthn for secure authentication. You'll need to register a device such as:
- Hardware security key (YubiKey, Ledger)
- Your device's built-in authenticator (Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello)
- Smartphone with biometric authentication
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete device registration.
Step 4: Add Recovery Methods
Protect your account by adding:
- Recovery Phrase: Generate and store a seed phrase offline
- Backup Devices: Add a second device for redundancy
Step 5: Log in to dApps
To use Internet Identity on KongSwap:
- Click Connect Wallet
- Choose Internet Identity
- Approve the login on your device
Best Practices
- Save your anchor number in a password manager
- Register at least two devices
- Generate and store a recovery phrase offline
- Use hardware keys for maximum security
